“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

The tough reality of this world, is that it’s not going to last. No Xbox, no board game, no fancy new car, no dazzling new home, it’s not going to last forever. This is what I say to myself everytime I choose to do something unneccessary: “What’s the harm in having some fun?” I don’t think it’s wrong to enjoy ourselves every now and then, sometimes it keeps me sane. But when those things are a replacement for bible time, that’s when it gets tricky. The pattern of this world in the verse above is describing many things. The pattern of this world could be talking about our day-to-day lives, waking up, eat, school, work, fun, sleep. If we continue to follow the same pattern and not improve our understanding of God every day, we just conform to repetitiveness. Renewing our minds includes stripping our minds and our routine of obstacles that will get in the way of God’s will. Because God’s will is perfect, and it’s the best plan out there for us as humans, we just need to be willing to renew our minds and center our lives on that plan. You might have a streak where you’re reading the Bible every day, or praying every night, but this life will continue to draw you back into worldly pleasures. Keep renewing your mind with new information about Christ.
